Am I going to need vaccinations to go overseas?
Yes, we require that you be fully immunized for the country that you will be visiting. Please see the Center for Disease Control for the most up to date information on which shots you will need. Also, bear in mind that the cost of these shots and/or pills can be in the hundreds of dollars and that we will need to verify your vaccinations.

Where can I find the information on International Health Insurance?
Please download and read our Short Term Info Pack for specific information on getting medical coverage for your trip. You are required to be covered by some type of international medical insurance. If your current provider offers coverage for you while you are overseas, you must provide us with proof of that coverage. If your normal medical insurance does not cover you overseas, you must purchase international medical insurance for the time you will be traveling with us. We recommend and have an arrangement setup with Good Neighbor Insurance’s SRI: www.missionaryinsurance.org.

Who are the Night Commuters?
Due to fear of abduction by the LRA and subsequent forced inscription, beatings, rape and murder, thousands of children in the districts of Gulu and Kitgum have been compelled to walk several miles every night from their homes in rural village areas to safer locations in the larger nearby cities. They look for sidewalks, bus stations and camps to sleep on the ground or concrete floors - every night - and often with no blankets or bedding. These children are collectively known as the "Night Commuters" or "night walkers". Click here to see our page about the Night Commuters.

Who are the LRA (Lord's Resistance Army)?
LRA stands for the "Lord's Resistance Army". Unfortuanately, they are an occultic group of rebels that have more to with the Lord of Darkness than the Lord of Light. Killing, maiming, torturing and terrorizing innocent women and children. There is much debate about their intentions but former captives tell us they to want to take over the government of Uganda.

The LRA are led by rebel leader Joseph Kony. More concerned with destabilizing northern Uganda from bases in Sudan and northern Uganda, the LRA rebels say they are fighting for the establishment of a government based on the biblical Ten Commandments, even though they have broken everyone of them. They are notorious for kidnapping children and forcing them to become rebel fighters or concubines. More than one-half-million people in Uganda's Gulu and Kitgum districts have been displaced by their terrorism and are living in temporary camps, called IDP Camps (Internally Displaced People) usually protected by the army of Uganda.

They continue to kill, torture, maim, rape, and abduct large numbers of civilians, virtually enslaving large number of children. The LRA has abducted large numbers of civilians for training as guerrillas; most victims were children and young adults. They abduct young girls as sex and labor slaves. Other children, mainly girls, are reported to have been sold, traded, or given as gifts by the LRA to arms dealers in Sudan. While some children later escape or are rescued, the whereabouts and condition of many children remains unknown.

Who are the SPLA (Sudanese People's Liberation Army)?
SPLA stands for the Sudanese People's Liberation Army. The north-south distinction and the hostility between the two regions of Sudan is grounded in religious conflict as well as a conflict between peoples of differing culture and language. The language and culture of the north are based on Arabic and the Islamic faith, whereas the south has its own diverse, mostly non-Arabic languages and cultures -- with few exceptions non-Muslim, and its religious character was indigenous (traditional or Christian).

Sudan has been embedded in civil war since 1983, when President Nimeiri imposed Shari'a law, which has resulted in the death of more than 3 million Sudanese through 2002. The principal insurgent faction is the Sudanese People's Liberation Movement (SPLM), a body created by the Sudanese People's Liberation Army (SPLA). The SPLA was formed in 1983 with Lieutenant Colonel John Garang as founder and leader.

Since 1983, the SPLA has been divided into 3 main factions: the SPLA Torit faction led by John Garang; the SPLA Bahr-al-Ghazal faction led by Carabino Kuany Bol; and the South Sudan Independence Movement led by Rick Machar. These internal divisions have intensified fighting in the south, hampering any potential peace settlement.

What areas are most in need right now?
Currently we are focusing on the tremedous need of the Night Commuters of Northern Uganda and the persecution of Christians throughout Africa. We desire to help protect and defend the helpless. Please consider supporting the work!
